Shoe gear company, Brooks, has designed an environmentally friendly performance racing shoe called The Green Silence. The Green Silence features recycled components, such as post-race plastic water & sports drink bottles as well as rubber that would otherwise have been abandoned. Another key feature is the BioMoGo, the first biodegradable midsole. Brooks debuted this midsole last summer. They claim the BioMoGo midsole will degrade 50 times faster than traditional EVA midsoles. Brooks accomplished this by adding a non-toxic, natural additive to encourage anaerobic microbes to degrade the midsole once it hits the landfill. The insole is also biodegradable, the adhesives are water-based and all colorants and dyes are non-toxic.

The Green Silence performance running shoe will not be available until February 1, 2010.
