Default Achilles tendonitis/tendinosis

You have taken all the right steps: decreasing activity as soon as you noticed the problem, icing, stretching and strengthening. But, since you have made little progress, it sounds like it is time to make a visit to your doctor. You may need a period of immobilization and eccentric training exercises with a physical therapist. Although treatment for Achillles tendonitis (the early inflammatory stage) and Achilles tendinosis (the later degenerative stage - marked by less inflammation and more thickening of the tendon) can take a number of months, I would have expected at least some progress at 5-6 weeks.

Make an appointment with your doctor (your GP or, if possible, with an orthopedist or a podiatrist). In the meantime, continue your current therapy making sure not to overstretch your Achilles. Also, make sure your shoes have a heel (1" wedged heel preferably) or use a heel lift in your shoe to reduce pressure on the Achilles tendon, avoid going up steep hills and minimize use of stairs (if possible).
