Which pad is best

Northcoast Footcare carries a variety of pads for ball of foot pain. The pads are made from gel, felt and foam. The advantage of gel pads is that they are reuseable and can be cleaned. The gel pads can only be used on the foot, they cannot be placed in the shoe. Gel pads are comfortable but don't compress much over time. Felt pads are affordable and compress at a slower rate than foam pads. They tend to absorb moisture and may need to be replaced more often. The pads can be placed on the foot or in the shoe. Foam pads are affordable and comfortable, but compress more than either felt or gel pads. They do not absorb moisture as much as felt. They can be placed on the foot or in the shoe. All felt and foam pads we carry are self adhesive.

Dr. Jill's Felt Metatarsal Pads are for metatarsalgia and generalized ball of foot pain. The pads are 1/8" thick, which is fairly thin and tends to work well in dress shoes and tighter fitting shoes and for smaller feet.

Large Felt Metatarsal Pads are designed to treat metatarsalgia and generalized ball of foot pain. The pads are 1/4" thick and 2 1/2" wide and are made for a larger sized foot.

Foam Metatarsal Bar Pads are designed to treat metatarsalgia and generalized ball of foot pain. The pads are 3/8th of an inch thick at the top and 1/16th of an inch at the thinnest portion. Most of the pad is fairly thin and this pad is best for those who worry about tolerating a thick pad under the ball of their foot, yet still want the pressure dispersed and pain relief.

Foam Neuroma Pads are specifically designed for treatment of neuromas, an inflamed nerve in the foot. The pad is 1/2" at it's thickest central area and tapers to the sides and toward the rear of the foot. Although the pad does a great job dispersing pressure under the ball of the foot and alleviating pain from neuromas or specific, isolated metatarsal conditions, some individuals find the pad a little bulky.

Dr. Jill's Ball of Foot Gel Cushions are metatarsal pads which can be used for metatarsalgia, neuromas or generalized ball of foot pain. The pad is similar in shape to the foam neuroma pad, but it is not as thick centrally and therefore some find the gel pads more comfortable. The main advantage of the gel pad is that it is reusuable and washable.
